The Case For Hair Perfume

This should have been a review and I was intending to write one but, as soon as I've started thinking about this sort of product – I couldn't help but asking for your opinion as well. I'd wish this was a forum of some sort so we can exchange our opinions actively. Perhaps we could do something similar in the comments below? Well, my mind started racing when I though of – hair perfume. I've recently received a Balea Trend It Up Hair Perfume (100ml for €2.95 in drogerie markt) and I must say that, although unusual, this type of product isn't new to me. I've encountered hair perfumes as a part of the Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche range – I'm a big fan of the fragrance and a hair perfume seemed like a very interesting yet very pricy indulgence. Although intrigued, I never went through the purchase myself as I always found that adding some extra cash was worth getting the fragrance itself – rather than a dedicated hair perfume. It's said that reasoning behind hair perfumes lies in the need to neutralize unpleasant odors that cling to unwashed hair. Now, I know that dry and/or curly hair has different needs regarding hair washing rituals (less frequent washing means less frizz and dryness) but for someone like myself who's the owner of the oily hair type – frequent or semi-frequent shampooing is something required. Let's put co-washing aside – I still believe that most women still use traditional shampoos nowadays and although some puritans gasp at the very thought of SLS in shampoos – I really need that squeaky clean feel and the luxurious foam from my hair washing experience. I usually wash my hair two to three times a week during colder months (that was my routine from the past) but ever since I've started running, going to the gym and practicing yoga – physical activity demands almost daily shampoo action, especially during warmer months. My hair smells pretty darn good thanks to any shampoo (gentle ones these days) I use to be quite honest – so why would I need a hair perfume?

Obicno sam kosu prala dva do tri puta sedmicno – to jest, prije nego sam pocela trcati, ici u teretanu i prakticirati jogu.

Some say that hair perfumes are a chic yet relatively inexpensive luxury – in the case of Balea that's true but if we're referring to that Chanel Chance hair perfume – I beg to differ. Dry shampoo also has a scent (well, most dry shampoos do) so it also helps to add some scent to the hair – but I also know quite a few women who hate that sort of scent in their hair. Personally, I use dry shampoo to give my roots some lift on the second or third day after washing, if I go that far without using the good ol’ shampoo, that is. It's also said that hair perfumes are not quite as strong as regular perfume and not quite as drying to your hair, either. That could very well be the truth but in most cases they do contain alcohol – very high on the ingredients list. Another claim is that they don't just make your hair smell good; they add shine and softness, too. If I'm using a hair mask/conditioner and maybe a leave-in or a hair oil – I honestly don't find the need to additionally bring softness to my hair via a hair perfume. So that claim goes out the window in my case (and it's a bit contradictory due to alcohol presence). So what's the bottom line with hair perfumes? I think that I can safely go on with my life without those products and finding arguments to keep them feels like grasping for straws. I think I'd be more interested in a lightly fragrant hair tonic/mist type of thing which would be alcohol-free and perhaps even having some moisturizing properties – I could run that through the lengths of my hair. I do get some nice scent from my sea salt spray which I also use on my scalp as well, so that's taken care of. The biggest issue I have is definitely the alcohol presence – just like I'm drifting away from traditional perfumes during spring and summer (since alcohol in them tends to irritate my skin) – the same goes for hair products. If you're intrigued by hair perfumes but don't want to break the bank – this Balea Trend It Up is nice. It smells sweet, almost bubblegum sweet but it doesn't linger for too long. That kinda beats the purpose but it's a cheap & cheerful way of trying something new. In the case of the decadent Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche hair perfume – I suppose die hard fans of the fragrance will indulge in an attempt to maximize its longevity – but that comes with an also decadent price tag. I'd love to hear your opinions on this subject so feel free to discuss in the comments section below.
