When Sore Throat/Stuffy Nose Gets In The Way…

For the past few days I've been strugglin’ for air, my throat is dry as the Sahara desert, nose is stuffed and I get feverish too many times during the day. How familiar this scenario is? I’ never was the one with iron strength immune system but lately things have been going out of hand. All in all, I am feeling quite crappy and even though I have no energy at all – I've decided to kick this cold to the curb and prepare myself for work – pronto! I wrote down everything I could remember that would help you effectively (and gracefully) overcome a cold in the hope that this post will come handy if you feel you're coming down with something. / Hygiene / Stating the obvious, I know – but having a reminder wouldn't hurt, right? Whenever I have a cold and especially if I get high temperature at night, I tend to frequently (if not daily) change my sheets and pillowcases. Same goes for face and/or body towels. This definitely helps to eliminate germs, sweat (yuck) and grime. Plus, I really feel much better when I lay in a clean, comfy bed. Same goes for changing into clean PJ's or loungewear. Another tip would be to open windows every morning (and night if you can) just to let the fresh air in. Tissues, a roll of toilet paper or dedicated small towels are a must for sniffly sessions. I think that, if you're in the condition, it's good to have a quick shower. Finally, mouth hygiene – I amp it up when I'm ill and besides having an actual effect of cleanliness – it makes me feel more fresh too. / Care / My lips are always chapped but even more so when I'm ill – especially if I have temperature. A lip balm is a must and the one I always turn to is my Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm. I tend to wash my hands often throughout the day and that can dry them out so that's why a nice, hydrating hand cream is in order (any hand cream from L'Occitane will do). I also like to have an antibacterial liquid on my night stand, just in case if I'm not feeling well enough to get out of bed (Balea from dm is cheap and effective). A nourishing cream/oil/balm is something dry areas and patches will crave – especially around the nose (Avene Cold Cream is good or LRP Cicaplast). No matter how bad my cold is – morning and evening face washing routine is something I always perform. Oskia Renaissance Cleaning Gel is effective in removing dirt and grime whilst being gentle towards raw and sensitive skin.  If I'm in the mood, I'll chuck in some nourishing toner – Dr.Hauschka Face Toner refreshes and nourishes skin amazingly well. If your skin is prone to clogging like mine is, I think that at least every other night you could squeeze in a blemish treatment such as La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo. It has helped me go through every cold without any breakouts to battle after the cold is over. I always struggle with sleeping, especially now with this annoying cough and fever. Lavender essential oil calms me down but I'm thinking about investing into a pillow spray this winter. Hair always suffers when I have a cold as it's always stuck in a bun – I decided to add a drop or two of my Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse in my bun. I can at least nourish my hair if it has to be tied up. / Remedy / I've asked my readers/followers at Meteo Beauty Facebook page for few tips and some advice about what remedies to use to get rid of a cold. All the girls have left some amazing tips and I'll be writing down some. Mixture of one ginger root and honey is bound to heal a sore throat and boost your immune system. Tantum Verde throat spray was also mentioned several times in the comments. Propolis is also amazing and helps immensely – just make sure you get it as natural as possible. Than there was a recommendation to combine lemon, honey and cinnamon – works wonders! Another interesting advice was to combine minty drops and warm milk – will try and report. It's always good to gurgle sage tea in your throat. Than you have your regular pills and pharmacy syrups – if everything fails. I also have put a good use of my blender – oranges, lemons and tangerines are regularly blended together for a fierce dose of Vitamin C. / Misc Tips / This miscellaneous part is reserved for anything else I could think of. If you're sick, that doesn't mean that you should deprive yourself from any and every kind of activity. If you're up for it, having a brisk walk helps. Fresh air is always beneficial. However, if you're feeling particularly ill than do lie down and have as much rest as it takes. The entire point is to ‘eavesdrop’ on your body and pick up all the signals it sends you. Another tip would be to avoid looking at TV or at your computer/laptop for too long. That gives me horrible headaches, my eyes hurt – moderation is key. And to close the subject – eat well and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Let me know if you find these tips useful or if you have something new to add.

Posljednjih dana se borim da dodjem do daha, grlo mi je suho poput pustinje i skripi, nos je zacepljen a groznica me trese svake noci. Moj imunitet se nikada nije mogao pohvaliti celicnom snagom ali ovaj scenario se ponavlja isuvise cesto. U svakom slucaju, osjecam se dosta slabo te iako nemam snage – odlucila sam da otresem ovu dosadnu prehladu te da se sto prije spremim za posao! Zapisala sam sve sto mi je palo na pamet a da bi moglo biti korisno u efektnom (i dostojanstvenom) prevazilazenju prehlade u nadi da ce ovaj post mozda olaksati nekome muke kroz koje ja sada prolazim. / Higijena / Mislim da i nije potrebno naglasavati ovaj aspekt ali podsjetnik nece nikome skoditi, zar ne? Kada god se prehladim sklona sam cestom (skoro svakodnevnom) mijenjanju posteljine i jastucnica. To mi je posebno bitno ako navecer imam visoku temperaturu i preznojavam se. Isto vrijedi i za peskire. Azurnost na ovom polju pomaze da se rijesimo bakterija, virusa ali i uopsteno necistoca. Moram dodati i da se osjecam mnogo bolje kada legnem u cist i pospremljen krevet. Isto primjenjujem i sa pidzamama ili odjecom koju nosim u kucnoj varijanti. Prozraciti prostoriju gdje boravite ujutro (i navecer) je jako korisno – svjez zrak olaksava disanje. Maramice, rolne toalet papira ili namijenjeni peskirici su obavezni za zacepljen nos. Ako ste u stanju, kratko tusiranje barem meni olaksava stvari i odrzavanje higijene. Takodjer, higijeni usta treba pristupiti sa posebnom paznjom u ovom periodu. Ulaganje u elektricnu cetkicu je bila jedna od pametnijih stvari koje sam uradila u posljednje vrijeme – to vam definitivno mogu reci. / Njega / Moje usne su uvijek suhe ali to je dodatno izrazeno tokom prehlade – posebno ako imam visoku temperaturu. Moj spasioc je Nuxe Reve de Miel balzam od kojeg se ne odvajam. Cesto pranje ruku tokom dana je dobra stvar ali nesumnjivo isusuje ruke i zato je lijepa krema za ruke neophodna (bilo koja L'Occitane kremica mi je dovoljna). Takodjer volim imati antibaketrijsko sredstvo pored nocnog stolica – za svaki slucaj, ako sam toliko slaba da ne mogu ustati iz kreveta u odredjenom momentu (Balea mi se pokazala odlicnom). Puhanje nosa cesto donosi suhu i perutavu kozu i tada hranljivi balzam/krema/ulje dolaze u pomoc (dobra mi je Avene Cold krema i LRP Cicaplast). Ono u cemu nikada nisam aljkava, koliko god se lose osjecala je ciscenje lica. Svako jutro i noc je umivanje obavezno i tu mi se Oskia Renaissance gel/balzam za ciscenje pokazao izvrsnim. Efektno cisti ali je i blag spram osjetljive koze. Ako sam raspolozena, ubaciti cu i lijep tonik poput Dr.Hauschka hidratantnog tonika – predivno osvjezava lice. Ukoliko vam je koza sklona zacepljenjima, kakav je slucaj sa mojom kozom – povremeno koristenje tretmana za bubuljice je pozeljno. Ovo pisem zato sto mi je LRP Effaclar Duo pomogao i nisam imala napade bubuljica tokom ali ni nakon prehlade kada bih ga koristila preventivno. Ako se mucim sa spavanjem a to je slucaj uz suhi kasalj i groznicu – etericno ulje lavande mi pomaze. Ipak planiram uloziti i u konkretan sprej za opustanje nekada tokom ove zime. Tokom prehlade, kosa uvijek pati jer je drzim zavezanu u pundjicu. Kada je vec takva situacija, odlucila sam dodati koju kap Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse ulja u tu pundjicu kako bih sebi olaksala savjest ali i kosi olaksala ovaj stresni period. / Lijecenje / Upitala sam svoje divne citateljice i pratiteljice preko Meteo Beauty Facebook stranice da mi pomognu sa savjetima kako da se izlijecim i ostavile su divne prijedloge od kojih sam neke zapisala. Misha mi je preporucila izrendam jedan korijen djumbira i pomijesam sa medom. Osim sto ce ubiti groznicu, zalijeciti grlo, podize imunitet. Amina, Amela i Svjetlana su mi preporucile Tantum Verde sprej za grlo – obavezna nabavka! Amina je takodjer preporucila muckalicu djumbira i meda ali i caj od luka – za hrabre. Danijela i Mirela su insistirale na propolisu za koji mislim da i ptice znaju – prirodni naravno, ne razrijedjena verzija iz apoteke. Arnela mi je preporucila djelotvornu mjesavinu pola limuna, kasike meda i cimeta. Interesantan ali jako ugodan savjet sam dobila od Lee da pomijesam mentol bombone i mlijeko – njam! Uvijek je dobro ispirati grlo cajem od zalfije/kadulje. Ako sve propadne, uvijek imamo pilule, pastile i sirupe iz apoteke (neo-angin, isla moos, granobil itd.). Dobro sam upotrijebila blender koji je prava masina za pravljenje sokova od narandzi, limuna i mandarina za dnevne doze vitamina C. / Ostali savjeti /  Palo mi je na pamet da, ako ste prehladjeni, to ne znaci da se morate vezati za krevet. Ako ste u stanju, kratka setnja ce ciniti dobra. Opet, ako ste jako slabi nema razloga da ne ostanete u krevetu i povratite snagu odmarajuci. U svakom slucaju, mislim da je poenta da osluskujemo sta nam tijelo porucuje. Jos jedna stvar – provoditi sto manje vremena gledajuci TV i u ekran kompjutera/laptopa je nesto na cemu i sama moram poraditi. Cim pretjeram dobijem glavobolju i oci me pocnu peci – znam da nisam sama u ovome. I da zakljucimo temu, dobra hrana i dosta tekucine su takodjer osnove. Naravno, ovdje se radi o prevazilazenju blazih stanja prehlade a ne ozbiljnih zdravstvenih problema.
