My Occasional Splurge

8/12/2017

There was a time when any ol' shower gel wouldn't make the cut - now, I'm not that fussy at all. Usually I just grab whatever is on offer but I a few favorites have stood out over the course of years. Palmolive Aroma Moments Feel The Massage is my favorite during the hot, hot summer (so refreshing) and L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil is my all-time winter love, for when my skin needs some added nourishment.

Barrage of random shower gels inhabiting my shower was interrupted when I made a shopping stop at Lush. After a long, long pause with Lush I've turned to my old favorites, among which was the Dirty soap - this time, I've opted for the Lush Dirty Springwash (100g 8,50 €) shower gel. It is the only product of this type I'd feel fine with calling "magical". And it's mostly down to its smell. For me, when Lush skincare is in question, it's usually the scent that makes or breaks the deal and this one ticks all the boxes. So refreshing without ever being citrusy, or too minty (in a toothpaste-like way) - or even too sweet. I always feel very clean when I use it and the scent does linger some but isn't overpowering. I can feel it on my clothes so it doubles for a fragrance, which is perfect during the summer heat. It also lathers really well.

Lush The Olive Branch (100g 7,95 €) was so raved about online that I truly wanted to give it a go. It's more moisturizing than Dirty which isn't drying either but with Olive Branch you really feel the fair trade olive oil doing its work (don't forget to shake it up before use, so that the oil mixes well). Vine leaf, orange flower and mandarin juice don't combine to a zesty scent, it's also more clean smelling than anything. It's actually quite beautiful and a bit more feminine than Dirty which is more unisex. However, it doesn't linger on my skin as long as Dirty does nor does it make me feel refreshed like Dirty. That's why I've repurchased Dirty Springwash multiple times and the Olive Branch was a one stop for me.
