Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour & Highlight

6/06/2017

Clinique is a brand I'm truly fond of but I wasn't exactly sold on their contour and highlight sticks - the contour is actually a brontour (cross between a contouring and bronzing shade) whilst the highlight seemed too pale and pinkish (I prefer a golden highlight). Sure, I'm very keen on their lip chubby sticks, matte pop lippies, pop blushes and skincare but these weren't supposed to be suitable to my needs and taste. Boy, was I proved wrong!

Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour ($23 | 6g) in Curvy Contour has such a beautifully light texture which is almost gel-like. It's incredibly easy to use - almost impossible to mess up since it blends into the skin really well and looks very natural. It doesn't have a sheen so it's not a satin finish but it isn't a powdery matte finish either - the warmth of your fingers warms it up and it sinks into the skin effortlessly, leaving no marks or lines. Don't be scared of the warmth or the intensity of its color - due to its malleable texture, it sheers out. It's quite a convincing product as it manages to warm up the complexion without an orange cast (even on lighter skin tones) whilst giving face definition, even though it has no grey pigment. The more you blend, the more natural it looks and it's formula is light and never breaks me out.

Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight ($23 | 6g) in Hefty Highlight is something that managed to knock out even my favorite Kevyn Aucoin creamy highlight - and that's a gorgeous, high-quality product. It' more creamy and more moisturizing than the contour stick -that texture alone imparts a dewy sheen. I love the fact that it's easy to apply and it blends perfectly on top of foundation. It's super easy to use and blend for a very pretty and natural everyday look. It's not an in-your-face highlighter - it's a subtle but noticeable glow on the skin. The pinkish hue isn't noticeable on my skin at all when I blend it out so swatches aren't the most accurate representation in this case. I must say that it looks subtler on photos while in real life the sheen is pretty intense. In my opinion, this is the most underrated highlighter on the market.

Chubby sticks in general have a practical packaging, great for taking to work or for traveling. All in all, I've been super impressed with these. What I adore about both, contour and highlight sticks - they don't disturb the foundation or concealer underneath. Their longevity is incredible - especially since they're cream products! I expected them to last 4-5h on me but I get an entire day of impeccable wear. I'd say they're ideal if you generally use cream products on your face, liquid foundations etc. and if your skin isn't too oily. Now that you know my faves I would like to know which are your favorite contour and highlight products?

    1. Powder formulas are usually better suited for oilier skin types but since mine is combination-dehydrated, I'm very happy with cream formulas as well (but not too slippy or greasy).
And thank you, that's very sweet! :*

Chubby sticks are amazing, it's not just a pr thing. They're actually really good.
Clinique has made an especially great job with these two - natural, easily blendable and long-lasting. Give the contour stick a go and you won't be disappointed!

    1. I think they can pass but, honestly - I would rather go for the classic powder bronzer/ contour/ highlight if I had oily skin.

Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting powder in Medium - my recommendation for contouring powder.
theBalm Bahama Mama - my recommendation for bronzer.
theBalm Mary Lou Manizer - my recommendation for highlighter.

      I hope this helps!
