How To Avoid Exercise-Related Breakouts

I love working up a sweat be it weights (mostly weights for me these days), cardio or yoga. I used to dread going to the gym and getting sweaty because I had a little voice at the back of my head screaming I'll get a breakout in a matter of seconds. At home you still have some control of the situation as you know how clean your home is but when you share a public place with many people - things can get tricky. I cannot fault exercising, it's beyond good for us but if we don't take care of our skin while we workout, clogged pores are pretty much guaranteed. Luckily, there are some pretty easy steps we can take before, during and after a gym session to ensure our complexion is clear.

Sometimes I am in doubt about this one (especially when I watch Brazilian workout videos - those ladies are divas!) but in general, taking off your makeup before a workout is essential. And it's not a matter of preference - pores open up while sweating and makeup blocks the skin's natural ability to breathe by clogging it up. Even if you're not wearing makeup you should still cleanse pre-workout. Treating the skin beforehand with something that takes the bacteria out of the picture, like La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+, would be something I'd call a smart move.

If you're taking your physical activity outside, SPF is a must and it is important to choose a non-clogging formula. I really rate and recommend the Anew Clinical E-Defence Multi Shield Lotion and I also like the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Matte Fluide Extreme.

Don't trust others to clean equipment after they've finished and wipe it down with antibacterical wipes or a dedicated antibacterial cleaner (some gyms have it on hand, including mine). 

To avoid acne on the forehead or along the hairline, skip the hair mask and/or conditioner in your hair on intense workout days. If that cannot be done, use a sweatband to to keep sweat and product from reaching your face. Try not to get hooked on dry shampoo because, if abused, it can irritate the scalp. Try to wash your hair with a mild, moisturizing shampoo - Wella Elements is a sulfate-free shampoo, super gentle and super moisturizing.

After you've finished with your workout, I think it's best to have a face wash at hand - getting all the sweat and grime as soon as possible off your face will reduce chances of blocked pores. Again, I am a huge fan of the Effaclar range so my top recommendation would be La Roche-Posay effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel. Alverde Clear Washcreme is also a fave!

Staying in sweaty clothes is a sure path to body acne. Similar to face, if sweat builds up on your skin, it will clog your pores. Hop in the shower as soon as you're done working out - I must admit that I'm finding shower foams very useful if using the gym's shower room. Balea Hawaiian Dream is an LE you must have in your gym bag! But if that's not possible, wipe off areas where sweat accumulates most (chest, back, stomach).

  • Ne predstavlja mi problem oznojiti se tokom fizicke aktivnosti, bez obzira da li je rijec o vjezbama sa tegovima (u zadnje vrijeme vecinom se time bavim), kardiu ili jogi. Nekada mi je pomisao znojenja u teretani bila odbojna jer mi je u glavi stalno bila misao da cu dobiti bubuljice od necistih sprava i tegova. Kada ste kod kuce, vjezbanje se ipak odvija u prilicno kontrolisanim uvjetima jer znate koliko vam je dom cist ali ako vjezbate u prostoru koji dijelite sa mnostvom drugih ljudi - stvari postaju zeznute. Vjezbanju necu pronalaziti mane, nema niti jednog argumenta protiv njega i nepobitno je dobro za nase zdravlje. Ali ako se ne brinemo o svojoj kozi i ne poduzmemo korake da je odrzavamo cistom - akne i slicni problemi su gotovo pa zagarantovani. Srecom, postoji par jednostavnih koraka koje mozemo uraditi prije, tokom i nakon vjezbanja kako bi osigurali cist ten.
  • Nekada i sama sumnjam u ono sto cu vam napisati (pogotovo nakon gledanja brazilskih videa o fitnessu - njihove dame su prave dive!) ali najiskrenije, uklanjanje sminke prije vjezbanja je neophodno. Vise se i ne radi o ukusu - cinjenica je da se pore otvaraju uslijed znojenja i sminka onemogucava kozi da dise, sto rezultira zacepljenjima. Cak i ako ne nosite sminku, umivanje nekim blagim sredstvom prije treninga mnogo pomaze. Nakon ciscenja, tretiranje koze necim sto ce ukloniti bakterije (poput La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+), nesto je sto bih nazvala pametnim potezom.
  • Ako namjeravate biti fizicki aktivni na otvorenom, krema sa zastinim faktorom je obavezna i vazno je odabrati kremu koja je nemasna. Meni se jako svidja i toplo preporucujem Anew Clinical E-Defence Multi Shield Lotion, kao i La Roche-Posay Anthelios Matte Fluide Extreme.
  • Savjet - nemojte ocekivati niti vjerovati da su drugi nakon upotrebe sprave ocistili. Za svaki slucaj spravu koju namjeravate koristiti prebrisite antibakterijskim maramicama (Septona su mi omiljene) ili sredstvom za dezinfekciju koju neke teretane imaju na raspolaganju.
  • Da bi izbjegli akne na celu ili uz rub kose, preskocite koristenje bogatih maski i/ili regeneratora za kosu na dane intenzivnog treninga. Ako je to nemoguce, traka za kosu ce sprijeciti da znoj i proizvodi skliznu na kozu. Jos nesto sto bih preporucila je da se ne oslanjate previse na sampon za suho pranje kose jer ako ga pocnete previse i precesto koristiti, moguce je da iziritira tjeme. Neki blag, hidratantni sampon je idealan za cestu upotrebu - nesto poput Wella Elements sampona bez sulfata.
  • Nakon zavrsenog treninga je dosta korisno pri ruci imati barem putno pakovanje neke umivalice - cim prije uklonite znoj i necistoce sa lica, manje su sanse da ce doci do stvaranja zacepljenja. Znate da sa, vjerna Effaclar liniji proizvoda tako da cu i ovaj put preporuciti La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying pjenusavi gel  Takodjer toplo preporucujem i Alverde Clear Washcreme
  • Sto duze ostanete u oznojenoj odjeci za vjezbanje, to su vece sanse i da ce vam se akne pojaviti na tijelu. Jednako kao sto je slucaj sa kozom lica, nakupljanje sebuma i uopsteno necistoca izaziva probleme na kozi. Cim zavrsite sa vjezbanjem skoknite pod tus i u tu svrhu su mi se pjene za tusiranje pokazale jako prakticnim. Balea Hawaiian Dream je LE tusiralica koja zasluzuje mjesto u vasoj torbi za trening! Ali ako vam tusiranje odmah nakon vjezbanja nije na ruku, onda antibakterijskim maramicama nije lose prebrisati mjesta najpodloznija za stvaranje akni (ledja, prsa, stomak).
