Smoked Salmon Sandwich

I have the most difficult time thinking of a creative breakfast that will make my tastebuds happy as well as giving me energy and nutrients. This may have something to do with the fact that I'm not a morning person and I don't often feel inspired at that time of day. This is a slippery slope as at those times I feel the laziest and will eat basically anything I find in the fridge. That's why I always have to have eggs, milk, banana and oats/ muesli at any time in my kitchen. I can always go by with scrambled/boiled/fried eggs or throw sliced banana in my oatmeal/ muesli mixture, often spruced up with dried or seasonal fruit (+ sesame seeds!). 

However, I do find it nice when I prep my breakfast or at least prep the ingredients for it the day before - that makes it possible to spice things up, change them a bit, just add some variety. My white button mushroom, egg and avocado toast is one thing I like to occasionally make but this following breakfast is probably my fave and is indeed easy peasy.

The only thing I have to do in the morning is to just get fresh bagels from our local bakery - I don't run away from white bread in the mornings because I'll burn it off during the day and I'm only mindful of the type of bread I consume later in the day. Having e.g. bread, however, is always a better option. I spread either a low fat cream cheese or Greek yoghurt and then apply a few strips of smoked salmon. It's so tasty and favorful and I think it pairs well with ground peppercorns, sea salt and some herbs - I like basil and chives. Cherry tomatoes keep things fresh and light and that's what I love about this simple sandwich - doesn't fall heavy on my belly.

As with every ingredient, it is best to consume all the herbs and fish fresh. However, if you are often in a hurry - this isn't a bad alternative. But do keep in mind to keep smoked salmon intake in moderation since it has nutritional advantages and drawbacks. It is a good source of protein, vitamins B and D, magnesium and selenium. Smoked salmon also contains plenty of omega-3 fatty acids. Despite its rich nutrient profile, smoked salmon also delivers a significant amount of sodium - anyone with high blood pressure will want to watch how much they eat, as anyone with water retention issues. 

I find it a fun take on sandwich toppings and even though I don't consume it regularly, there is something very comforting with each bite of this yummy sandwich I took this morning.

  • Moram priznati da mi nije lako smisljati kreativne ideje za dorucak koje ce obradovati nepce dok mi organizmu pruzaju energiju i potrebne nutrijente. Ovaj problem bi mogao da bude povezan sa cinjenicom da nisam osoba koja se voli ustajati rano ujutro i ne funkcionisem tada najbolje. To je nezgodno posto dopusta da lijenost i manjak inspiracije budu put koji vodi ka tome da za dorucak jedem bilo sto iz kuhinje. Zato iz predostroznosti uvijek moram imati zalihe jaja, mlijeka, banana i zobi/ muslija na koje se mogu osloniti. Sasvim mi je dovoljno da pripremim jaja (bilo da je u pitanju tvrdo/meko kuhano jaje, przena jaja ili omlet) ili da u mjesavinu zobi/ muslija ubacim mlijeko sa bananama te nesto sezonskog ili suhog voca (+ sjemenke susama!).
  • A opet, lijepo je kada mogu pripremiti dorucak noc prije ili barem pripremiti potrebne sastojke noc prije - to mi omogucava da bez zurbe pripremim jelo sa nekim novim sastojcima, cisto da u svakodnevnicu unesem malo raznovrsnosti. Jedna varijanta dorucka je moj tost sa sampinjonima, avokadom i jajima koji me iznova odusevi ali ono sto cu vam pokazati u nastavku je mozda i meni najdrazi dorucak a izuzetno ga je lako pripremiti.
  • Ujutro mi samo preostaje da nabavim svjeze pecivo iz obliznje pekare - ujutro nisam toliko stroga po pitanju bijelog peciva posto znam da cu sve sto pojedem za dorucak sagorjeti tokom dana ali odabir peciva za naredne obroke je dosta obazriviji, stroziji. Ipak, ako cemo biti iskreni - razev hljeb ce uvijek biti zdravija i bolja opcija. U svakom slucaju, preko odabranog peciva namazem malo niskomasnog namaza, mladog sira ili grckog jogurta te poslozim par trakica dimljenog lososa koji je izuzetno prijatan za nepce. Licno ga volim kombinovati sa smrvljenim zrnima crnog bibera, malo morske soli te biljnim zacinima - moji favoriti su bosiljak i vlasac. Ceri paradajz unosi malo svjezine i to je ono sto volim kod ovog sendvica - nikada nije opteretio stomak.
  • Kao sa bilo kojom namirnicom, najbolje je da biljne zacine i ribu konzumiramo svjeze. Ipak, ako niste u mogucnosti - suseno bilje i dimljeni losos nisu losa alternativa. No, imajte na umu da je dimljeni losos najbolje umjereno unositi u organizam posto ima pozitivne i negativne strane. Na primjer, odlican je izvor proteina, vitamina B i D, magnezija i selena. Dimljeni losos sadrzi i dosta omega-3 masnih kiselina. Uprkos tome sto ima bogat nutrijetni profil, dimljeni losos sadrzi i dosta natrija - osobe sa visokim krvnim pritiskom moraju paziti da ga ne unose previse. Kao i osobe koje imaju problema sa retencijom vode.
  • Licno smatram da je dimljeni losos super nacin da ucinimo obicni sendvic malo drugacijim. Iako ga ne konzumiram cesto, zaista je svaki zalogaj bio prava simfonija okusa.

    1. Vjerujes li mi da mi se dimljeni losos pocne jesti kada god pogledam fotke xD
      Skup je ali nije se lose ponekada njim pocastiti.
