GAMEHA Hazelnut Oil

6/07/2014

My story with hazelnut oil dates way back but the most intense out relationship got was during the past winter. Rewind a few years back and you'd hear me bangin' about almond oil being my one and truly love amongst oils - however, we somehow drifted apart over the years. I will always have a soft spot for almond oil (don't make me mention a certain almond-based shower oil or milk concentrate) but I have a new oil in my life that completely took over almond oil's place and even outsmarted it. Hazelnut oil is an amazing oil that, in a lack of a better word, is absolutely perfect. Why? Well, I suppose not all of us fall into the category of voracious vixens who throw in or throw out certain skincare bits as easily. I actually felt very apprehensive to the idea of throwing a relatively new oil into my skincare regime. One I planned out so carefully, might I add. Lots of my skincare bits and bobs are 'chemical'-based so, naturally, I did ask myself in the back of my brain whether a new oil would clash with them. To my utmost joy, I realized that hazelnut oil could possibly be one of the best things I've introduced in my skincare regime and - it saved me quite a lot of money along the way. Have I mentioned that I'm on my third bottle?

Just to get the general information out the way, don't be scared of an oil - not even if your skin is oily by type. Mine is combination with a prominent T-zone as of late (warm summer always gets to me) but hazelnut oil truly helps me keep my skin balanced at all times. Hazelnut oil is a carrier oil made from roasted, pressed hazelnuts. It has a pale yellow-ish coloring and it gets easily absorbed into the skin when applied topically. It has a nutty, somewhat sweet taste and a mild aroma. Despite its light texture, hazelnut oil is rich in many nutrients including Vitamin E. It is high in oleic acid which helps increase shelf life as well as having a moisturizing and anti-inflammatory effects. Hazelnut oil also contains high levels of linoleic acid – an essential fatty acid which is involved in maintaining the integrity of the outer layer of the skin. Hazelnut oil is an effective skin tonic and moisturizer. Thanks to its astringent properties it tightens skin's texture, regenerates cells and strengthens surface capillaries and it is a perfect oil for performing a massage (especially facial massage). Hazelnut oil has been called the 'pore-reducing' and 'acne-fighting' oil because of its unique properties. A high content of catechins and tannins (healthy flavonoids) make this oil have a 'dry' finish 'astringent' properties that feel smoothing and toning on the skin. The astringent properties help absorb excess oils and shrink pores while the antibacterial components go to work battling skin bacteria to help reduce blackheads and blemishes. It's suitable for sensitive skins as well as it is very mild.

Ulje ljesnika sadrzi i visok udio linolenske kiseline.

The way I mostly use my hazelnut oil is to remove make-up, especially eye make-up. Nothing works like a charm as a dedicated beauty oil on removing even the toughest scrapes of mascara (even waterproof!). I lightly soak my cotton pad with water, squeeze the excess, add a few drops of hazelnut oil on the moistened cotton pad, gently press over my (closed) eyes, wait a second and presto - everything is 100% removed! That's basically a bi-phase make-up remover, right there. And that is the part where hazelnut oil saved me tons of money. It's truly an affordable yet extremely effective make-up remover. That is the main purpose it has in my beauty routine, at least. It smells delicious, doesn't make skin oily (I do wash my face after removing make-up though), takes care of my eye area and lashes - what else would I possibly wish for? During winter, I used to add a few drops in my body, hand and especially foot creams and that made them ten times powerful. That's a good tip for people with dry skin - regardless of the season. When I'd read that it's goo for strengthening capillaries, I immediately started practicing a 1x week massage on my legs. It's too early to tell if it works but it's making my legs super soft and supple along the way. If you have frizzy hair - hazelnut oil comes to the rescue as it completely tames the frizz without overburdening the hair. Fine hair might want to be careful, though. I like to use it as a pre-wash treatment and it visibly makes my ends smoother. Besides being a part of Nutella, many pralines I crave for 24/7 (and it makes a damn fine pesto dressing) - hazelnut oil is one of those seriously, ridiculously fine things we take granted in life. I reckon it deserves to be mentioned as it helped me a great deal with various things.
